Miguel Miramon (1832-1867) was a Mexican general and politician who served as President of Mexico from 1859-1860. He became involved in politics during the Reform War in Mexico, which pitted liberal reformers against conservative forces. Miramon initially supported the conservative side, but later switched to the liberal cause.
As president, Miramon's policies were unpopular and he was overthrown in 1860 by liberal forces led by Benito Juarez. Miramon fled and attempted to stage a comeback in 1861, but was defeated and captured. He was executed in 1867 during the French intervention in Mexico.
Miramon is remembered as a controversial figure in Mexican history. Some view him as a hero who fought for conservative values and traditional Catholicism, while others see him as a traitor who switched sides for personal gain.
